Customer Review: Yellow Gingham Scuba Summer Dress
A detailed review of our Yellow Gingham Scuba fabric by Florence Fisher of Crafty Little Stitch.
Florence Fisher, also known as Crafty Little Stitch, used our beautiful Yellow Gingham Scuba Fabric to create a bright and cheerful summer dress. In this review, she shares her experience working with the fabric, covering everything from colour and drape to comfort and ease of sewing.
If you're considering scuba fabric for your next dressmaking project, this real-world review provides useful insight into how the fabric performs both at the sewing machine and when worn.
Colour & Appearance
The fabric features a fresh lemon yellow and white gingham design, creating a cheerful and timeless look. The gingham pattern is printed on the outer side of the fabric, whilst the reverse remains plain white.
Florence described the fabric as "wearing a little piece of sunshine", making it perfect for adding colour and personality to any handmade wardrobe.
Drape, Comfort & Texture
Although scuba fabric is often associated with structure, Florence found this fabric draped beautifully when used for a full skirt. The fabric offered enough body to hold its shape whilst remaining lightweight, comfortable and breathable.
During warm weather, including temperatures reaching 30°C, the fabric remained comfortable to wear and did not feel heavy or restrictive.
Ease of Sewing
The slight stretch in the fabric makes a stretch needle beneficial, although Florence successfully completed the project using a standard straight stitch. One of the biggest advantages of scuba fabric is that it does not fray, eliminating the need for seam finishing and making dressmaking projects quicker and easier.
"This Yellow Gingham Scuba fabric is brilliant to work with and will bring a little bit of sunshine to your wardrobe – highly recommended!"
Final Thoughts
This project demonstrates just how versatile scuba fabric can be. Whilst often used for structured garments, it can also create beautiful dresses with movement, comfort and excellent shape retention.
